GloPoWriMo 2021: Day 10

April 10, 2021 Donna M Day No comments exist

Today is the tenth day of GloPoWriMo and today’s poetry prompt was to make notes on a song with which you are familiar and the objects in your junk drawer, then write a poem that weaves together your ideas and observations from both.

We haven’t really lived here long enough yet to accumulate a decent junk drawer, so instead I made notes on the things in my handbag and wrote my poem using that and The Marvellette’s song, When You’re Young and In Love. I hope you enjoy it.

Business cards and tissues

An unused office pass
buried beneath a strawberry print face mask
and keys
rattling on top of a purse that broke
during the great toilet paper shortage of 2020.

It is spring now
and everyone feels magic in the air.

The hospital appointment card
smells faintly of the perfume
bottle with no lid.
