GloPoWriMo 2021: Day 22

April 22, 2021 Donna M Day 13 comments

Today is the twenty-second day of GloPoWriMo and today’s prompt was to write a poem that invokes a specific object as a symbol of a particular time, era, or place.

I’ve chosen something which reminds me of my childhood. I hope you enjoy it.

Kiwi fruit

The day after we lost her
I bought a kiwi fruit.

I peeled it and sliced it up thick,
more than five slices is too many.
The soft green fruit
and sharp black seeds
took me back to childhood
and her house

where kiwi fruit was a special treat.
Now it tastes like love.

  3. Yum. That is how we remember people we love.
That is how people who touch our hearts live on forever. Thanks for sharing with us. Lovely.
