Today is the twenty-seventh day of GloPoWriMo and today’s prompt was to write a poem inspired by an entry from the Dictionary of Obscure Sorrows.
I loved looking through this dictionary, and will probably come back to it again at some point, but for now, my poem for today is inspired by the word “anemoia“.
Imagine stepping through the frame
into the sepia tint haze,
or sharp black and white.
Imagine sitting by the side of the road
living the lives they lived
before you arrived here,
or anywhere else.
Imagine the people who slept
in your house
and tended your garden.
Imagine them looking at our moon,
and dancing the days and nights away.
Imagine the air you breathe
passing through their lungs
filling their blood with bright red oxygen.
Imagine the people
who will imagine your life
when it is an imaginary story
inspired by a gravestone.
