GloPoWriMo 2021: Day 29

April 29, 2021 Donna M Day No comments exist

Today is the twenty-ninth day of GloPoWriMo and today’s prompt was to imagine a window looking into a place or onto a particular scene and write a poem inspired by what you see and what is going on.

For this one, I have taken inspiration from a popular news story. Of course, the content of the poem is based entirely on my own imagination and any resemblance to reality is entirely coincidental. I hope you enjoy it.

No 11’s £11,000 Wallpaper

Peeking through the window
of the flat everyone’s talking about.
The flat whose décor
reputedly cost more
than my house.

Exquisite taste
has swept away
the John Lewis nightmare
with an array of
antwacky brass chandeliers
tacky gold wallpaper
and a purple rattan sofa
that looks a lot like my laundry basket.

The shaggy yellow rug
in the centre of the room
must cause some confusion,

or at least a decent excuse
not to vacuum
whenever he actually combs his hair.
